The Donna L. Martins & Edward E. Martins Foundation helped a medical student at UCSF to launch her career in oncology
In 2017, the Donna L. Martins & Edward E. Martins Foundation generously supported UCSF medical student Suravi “Blossom” Raychaudhuri and helped to launch her career as a physician scientist.
Blossom had finished her third year of medical school at UCSF and was interested in studying Hematology/Oncology, particularly lymphoma. The Martins Foundation provided support for her to work on several projects in the lab of Wei Ai, MD, a blood cancer specialist at UCSF, for a full academic year to explore a career in translational research. Her work led to a publication in a prestigious scientific journal and the opportunity to present at scientific meetings.
After graduating from medical school in 2019, Blossom went on to complete her medical residency training and additional research in oncology at Stanford University School of Medicine, one of the most competitive program in the country. Her research experiences as a philanthropically-funded medical student at UCSF and beyond truly solidified her career choice in oncology. Blossom will soon start her oncology fellowship training at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center which is affiliated with the University of Washington in Seattle.
